The 152-year-old Erlander Home is the heart and soul of the Swedish Historical Society and it desperately needs our help! The Swedish Historical Society has been awarded $16,700 grant for the Erlander Home Museum Basement Foundation Tuckpointing and Waterproofing! The grant was awarded with support from the Ralph A. & Mildred Johnson Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois’ Community Grants Program.
This grant helps immensely in reaching our overall goal of $40,000, but we still have more to go. Reaching this goal is critical to moving forward with the repairs this spring!
A survey was conducted, recommending the following: 1. The fence and AC unit needs to be removed from the south side of the building. 2. A 40 ft. x 6 ft. area along the south side of the foundation will be exposed. 3. Mortar joints will be ground out and tuck pointed on the 2’ x 40’ area above grade. 4. The below grade portion will be power washed, and the stone joints repaired. 5. A waterproofing agent will be applied to seal the concrete. 6. The area will be backfilled and graded to direct the flow of water away from the building. 7. The 28 x 8 ft. area in the basement will be plastered. 8. The fence and AC unit will be reinstalled and landscaping restored.
We’ve set up this campaign with a goal of $40,000 to cover the costs for this extensive project. With your help, Swedish Historical Society can reach this goal and help preserve and protect the Erlander Home's foundation.
