Join us on September 20th at 10:00 am for an intriguing narrative about Rockford for 90 years of excellent furniture production that was the foundation of Rockford’s industrial growth, presented by Roger Benedict.
The Rockford’s furniture industry began around 1870 during the beginning of the Gilded age in the United States where industrial men risked everything to create rapid industrial growth. The factors that influenced this industry were the Rock River, hardwood timbers, railroads, and the Swedish immigration. Included in this presentation is astounding contribution by Swedish men who created the furniture factory infrastructures by taking high risks with their ingenuity, creativeness, and determination.
This presentation is about all aspects of furniture making which contribute to the activities of growing Rockford; yet in the 20th century there were key factors that caused a massive factory decline. About the Presenter: Roger Benedict spent over 40 years as a Mechanical Engineer in the Rockford manufacturing industry, that through curiosity began research six years ago of the Rockford Furniture Industry. The road traveled led to the Rockford Public Library, historical collections, and historians.
