Connecting Generations and Community
The Swedish Historical Society's Capital
Campaign has a mission to build the Harold J. & Marion Carlson
Swedish American Cultural Center on the vacant lot across 3rd
Street from the Erlander Home Museum. The center will be a
catalyst for the restoration and development of other
Swedish-American historic sites in, and around Rockford.
The Center will be fully accessible and provide space for
events, traveling exhibits and climate-controlled archival
storage.
The Goal:
- To tell the story and interpret the long-lasting influence of the Swedish migration to America and the Rockford area.
- To facilitate the Swedish Historical Society of Rockford, IL to expand the size and number of tours, exhibits, festivals and educational
programs, thus generating additional revenue and endowments to support the facility's long-range vision, building maintenance and program expansion.
- To provide meeting space for Scandinavian groups and individuals who are spending time in the Midwest, whether national or international guests.
- To preserve the Swedish culture and heritage, which contributes so much to Rockford and northern Illinois.
- To provide an expanded library for genealogical and historical research.
- To enable the Swedish Historical Society to preserve the Erlander Home as a premiere historic house museum.
